DAY 1 • Depart U . S . Depart on your flight to Auckland , New Zealand .
DAY 2 • Cross International Date Line Continue your flight to Auckland , across the International Date Line .
DAY 3 • Auckland , New Zealand An O . A . T . representative meets us at the airport . We ’ ll be joined by fellow travelers from our optional pre-trip extension to Australia : Sydney & Great Barrier Reef .

DAY 4 • Auckland • Controversial Topic : Maori reparations
Explore Auckland on foot , led by your Trip Experience Leader . Visit Bastion Point where a local Maori representative will greet us with a traditional welcome ceremony , tell stories of the tribe from the past , and express hopes for the future . After , our host will enlighten our travelers about a Controversial Topic : the legitimacy of the Treaty of Waitangi — New Zealand ’ s founding document — and how it lead to a discriminatory impact on the country ’ s Maori population , who now experience disproportionate poverty .

DAY 5 • Auckland • Waiheke Island • Winery & olive oil estate visits
Journey by ferry to Waiheke , New Zealand ’ s secondlargest island . Upon arrival , we ’ ll drive to one of the thirty boutique wineries on the island and sample their vintages . After , we ’ ll drive to a nearby olive oil estate to learn about the estate ’ s unique history , take a look at the olive mill machinery and find out all about the process of making oil .

DAY 6 • Hamilton Gardens • Rotorua • Nest Egg Kiwi Conservation Project
Drive through lush , green pasturelands in the center of the North Island , the epicenter of Maori life . Arrive at Hamilton Gardens , a public garden park on the banks of the Waikato River complete with a lake , nursery , open lawns , and enclosed gardens . Later , continue on to Rotorua . On the way , we ’ ll stop at Nest Egg Kiwi Conservation Project , and learn from the staff about breeding , raising , and caring for the national bird of New Zealand .

DAY 7 • Rotorua • A Day in the Life of a Ngati Manawa community
Drive to the lands of the Ngati Manawa for A Day in the Life of one of New Zealand ’ s only landlocked Maori tribes . We ’ ll visit a Marae ( meeting place ) in Murupara , where we ’ ll be welcomed with a traditional Maori greeting by the local elders . Then we ’ ll head to Kohutapu Lodge , located on the shores of Lake Aniwhenua , to meet a Maori family with whom we will
share a hangi meal . After lunch , we may learn some traditional Maori games .

DAY 8 • Rotorua • Optional Waimangu Volcanic Valley tour • Home-Hosted Dinner
Today is free for you to make your own discoveries . Or , join our optional Waimangu Volcanic Valley tour . Explore the world ’ s youngest geothermal site , and discover Inferno Crater and Frying Pan Lake , followed by a cruise of Lake Rotomahana . This evening , sit down with a local Maori family for a Home-Hosted Dinner .
