DAY 1 • Depart U . S . Fly overnight from the U . S . to Keflavik , Iceland .
DAY 2 • Keflavik , Iceland • Selfoss
Arrive in Keflavik , Iceland , in the early morning hours . Transfer to Selfoss , and meet fellow travelers who took our Westman Islands : Volcanic Landscapes & Puffins or New ! Copenhagen : Denmark ’ s Hub of Contemporary Culture pre-trip extension . Gather for a Welcome Dinner this evening .

DAY 3 • Visit wool studio • Explore the Golden Circle
Visit a local wool studio for an interactive session on wool-dying , spinning , and knitting . We ’ ll learn how natural ingredients are utilized throughout the production process , as well as why Icelanders have become so dependent on wool products over the centuries . Then discover Iceland ’ s Golden Circle , a ring of natural highlights : Gullfoss waterfall , Geysir hot spring area , and Thingvellir National Park . This afternoon , return to Selfoss .

DAY 4 • Discover Seljalandsfoss Waterfall • Super Jeep tour
Begin your day with a visit to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall , a 180-foot thundering cascade shrouded in great
clouds of mist . Seeing this waterfall will show our small group the effects of climate change firsthand and the dangers of an ice-less Iceland . Later , travel to Vik Village and experience the rugged Icelandic landscape by Super Jeep .

DAY 5 • Visit local greenhouse • Controversial Topic : The blood mares of Iceland
Transfer to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula today , stopping at a local greenhouse to learn about the challenges of growing vegetables in Iceland , and learning about the Controversial Topic of so-called “ blood mare ” farming — the practice of harvesting blood from pregnant horses to collect a fertility hormone . Iceland is one of the only countries in the world — and the only country in Europe — where this practice is legal . Increasingly , these “ blood farms ” have drawn the ire of animal rights activists who find the procedure cruel , and harmful to the mares that are subjected to it .

DAY 6 • Discover Snaefellsnes Peninsula
Explore the Snaefellsnes Peninsula . First , stop in the fishing village of Arnarstapi for a coastal hike . Later , visit Bjarnarhofn Shark Museum and sample a regional delicacy , hakarl , made from shark meat .

DAY 7 • A Day in the Life of an Icelandic horse farm
Travel to a family-run farm in Daeli for our A Day in the Life overnight experience . Meet members of the owner ’ s family and learn about their small businesses . You ’ ll also have the opportunity to meet Icelandic horses first brought to the country by Viking settlers . Despite their size , they are known to be hardy and long-lived , and the government aims to maintain their good health by outlawing the import and export of horses , minimizing the risk of disease .
