Hemant admits to being a misfit in the corporate world and quickly felt right at home in the Far North. “Cairns has an entrepreneurial spirit that we love; there are so many fantastic businesses evolving here, and the community are so welcoming. One thing I disliked about Sydney, you could go to the same coffee shop for ten years, and no one would care, here it’s the complete opposite.” Hemant and his wife Evonne have turned a passion for solving problems, into a thriving home and business automation venture. To put it simply, home automation refers to the ability to control everything around the house – from switching the lights to opening the door – with a simple push of a button or a single tap on the screen. Home automation was often thought of in the past as elitist or perhaps like something out of a James Bond movie, but now it is not only affordable but in many cases necessary. It has become an essential element in the quality of life for those with disabilities, and a revolution in home security, it can make life much safer. Hemant first began messing around with automation in his university dorm, he laughingly suggests that it came about out of “pure laziness”.
