LIZ AND LANCE RICHARDS
Married at Angsana Palm Cove on 23/08/1997
“Lance and I met in 1996 while we were working at the Cairns
International Hotel. Shortly afterwards, I went to live overseas.
We stayed in contact, and then Lance asked me to come home
so we could (maybe) get married. I finished up my travels
in Europe and came home. Three months later, I was still
waiting for that proposal! I got impatient, so one day I popped
the question in a coffee shop in Lake Street. He said yes
immediately. What the hell had he been waiting for if he was so
keen! Men!”
Memorable moment
Lance picking up his mate who was hitchhiking to our wedding.
NOELLE AND DARREN HALPIN
Married at Shangri-La at the Marina Cairns on 21/04/2007
“Darren and I met when I moved to Innisfail from the Gold Coast
in 2002. Darren was a partner in the accounting firm where I
worked, and we hit it off. In 2007, our eldest child, Harry, was
about 4 months old. We were in Brisbane and got talking about
marriage. That same day, we looked at rings, and we were
married six weeks later.”
Memorable moment:
At the wedding ceremony the best man pretended to not be able
to find the wedding rings, after a few minutes and a bit of panic
from one of my aunties who proceeded to remove her wedding
rings so I could use, they magically appeared. Harry was six
months old at our wedding, so before we made our entrance at
the reception, I had to slip off my wedding dress and breastfeed
him. The things we do!”
RICHELLE AND NATHAN WOODS
Emmanuel Uniting Church in Westcourt on 25/09/1999
“I was at Brothers one night in 1997 after watching the footy
that afternoon. Woodsie came up to me and said “These blokes
over here want to meet you, and so do I”. Real smooth! He
proposed to me on a Thursday night after footy training. We
were married the first weekend after the footy season. And our
honeymoon included attending the NRL Grand Final - that’s life
when you marry a footballer!”
Memorable moment:
Woodsie’s bucks party was also his Mad Monday celebrations
after the 1999 CDRL Grand Final. I didn’t see him again until
late Wednesday. I fell over in my wedding gown, trying to
reverse into the limosuine, and the photographer drove through
Macdonalds for the bridesmaids and I, as we missed having
any lunch.
