One of my favourite contributions to interior decorating is art . It can present itself in many different mediums . In decorating , it appears mostly in sculptures and artwork . It absolutely amazes and intrigues me as to what idea or thought brought this art to reality . Was it hardship , joy , sadness ? How is this artist expressing one self ?
Many times a certain piece of art will determine how the room will function as it dictates placement of furniture , and can be the starting point for the design concept . We are so fortunate here in tropical North Queensland as we have access to so many wonderful artists . With pricing to suit all , you are sure to find something that will meet your budget , so it does really surprise me when I hear people comment “ I just want something cheap and cheery for my walls ”.
When one makes a comment like that , you have to wonder does cheap and

cheery run through their mind every time they look at it . Because there is a fair chance every visitor , friend or potential buyer could also have those thoughts . This in return does not really bring any element one would have hoped .
Spend the extra money on a good quality print or canvas that is guaranteed to give you the right effect you are looking for . A beautifully decorated room comes alive with a balance of shapes , fabrics , textures , light and most important art . Art has the power to raise emotions . It can inspire , or even provoke ones thoughts .
How many of us have flicked through a glossy home magazine , and in the corner of the page noticed something that has drawn our attention , and we find ourselves going back to it . There ’ s a fair chance that somewhere in the picture is a piece of artwork that has created a particular thought .
While fabrics , textures , furniture and window treatments contribute towards a beautiful space , it ’ s the artwork that holds the key to emotions .
And please if you are travelling overseas and you are thinking of getting something copied , remember it is and always will be just a copy . It is what it is , and it will never have the same effect or feeling that a true piece of original artwork would possess . My advice is , if you are entering this path , is to put some thought into it . Source an artist from that area that does similar work instead of settling for just a copy .
