The Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53: This self-guided
hands-on discovery activity may include painting snow or
building a fort, weather permitting. Visitors will find all the
tools needed to have some frosty fun.
The Morton Arboretum, 4100 Illinois Route 53: Enjoy a brisk
autumn walk and take in the changing colors of The Morton
Arboretum’s trees with the Arboretum’s forest ecologist, Chris-
tine Rollinson. View fall color while learning about the science
behind the seasonal changes that trees go through each year.

Shedd Aquarium, 1200 S. Lake Shore Drive: On the first Sat-
urday of each month, join us for a deep dive into the world of
aquatic life! You’ll learn about your favorite animals through
hands-on activities, games, crafts and time behind the scenes
with Shedd’s animal experts. This program includes aquarium
admission, so afterward your family can continue to explore!
This event is designed for families with children ages 5-12.
One adult must attend for every five children under the age of

pumpkin to Flick Park Sled Hill for a Pumpkin Roll competition.
Have fun smashing your pumpkin and turning it into compost
that will nourish plants in the spring. Remove candles and glow

Happy Notes where you and your friends can make cards that
will bring a smile to the face of a hospitalized child. Cards for
hospitalized kids is also a great way to earn community services
hours. Materials will be supplied by the library. For teens in
grades 7-12
Oakbrook Terrace Historical Society, 17W245 16th St.: Parents
and kids enjoyed the experience and there are many fond
memories. John Dispensa III said his great-grandfather cre-
ated the the idea to provide an affordable family outing at an
amusement park. There will be lots of memorabilia on display.
Also on display will be the original toy soldiers.

Johnson’s Mound Nature Preserve, 41W600 Hughes Road: Enjoy
the colors of autumn and learn about trees, their leaves and the
changes that occur on this family friendly hike. We will explore
the diversity of trees growing at Johnson’s Mound, discuss the
timing of peak foliage color and enjoy the peaceful woods at
