MESSAGE FROM DR . GARY E . KALKUT SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT , NETWORK INTEGRATION ASSOCIATE CHIEF CLINICAL OFFICER

DEAR COLLEAGUES AND FRIENDS :

First and foremost , I want to congratulate everyone on a monumental year . It was truly heartwarming to be able to attend the first in-person Faculty Development Conference in three years . It was a pleasure to see familiar smiles , as well as welcome new members to the Dental Medicine team .
As we all know , the COVID-19 Pandemic has affected all of us . Case numbers in the U . S . continue at high levels , but notably hospitalization and mortality remain lower when compared to early days of the pandemic . I continue to praise Dr . Martin Lieberman and his team of resilient professionals who have continued Dr . Neal Demby ’ s legacy in providing access to care in underserved communities and preparing the next generation of dental health providers . As we embark on the new year , I urge you all to have utmost confidence in evidence-based prevention strategies and authorized treatments .
A core mission for NYU Langone Dental Medicine is caring for the populations in our communities . We are proud of our departmental efforts to expand diversity and inclusion in our faculty and residency programs . This year , the annual Faculty Development Conference included lectures that had been geared towards diversity and inclusion . This is also presented in the health center spotlights that are highlighted in this issue of The Bridge .
This has been another remarkable year that will go down in the books . We are constantly inspired to improve our programs . One significant step taken by the Advanced Education in General Dentistry and Pediatric Dentistry Programs is conducting their first virtual Objective Structured Clinical Examination ( OSCE ) for Associate Directors in collaboration with New York Simulation Center for Health Sciences ( NYSIM ). The OSCE was designed to provide the Associate Directors with resources to manage resident issues and provide constructive feedback to learners . NYU Langone Dental Medicine Postdoctoral Residency Programs has become a national model in dental education .
My thanks to all of you for your dedication to serve , to teach , and to discover and wish you all continued success !
Sincerely ,
Gary E . Kalkut , MD , MPH
