NYSFE 2017 Designer Spotlight

What inspired you to
pursue a career as a designer?
I’ve always had an eye for fashion. When
I went shopping normally I never saw
anything that was appealing or sparked
my interest.
Do you have a designer that you
admire? Why?
I would have to say famed fashion
designer Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel better
known as “Coco Chanel.” I know that
you’ve heard her story numerous times
but I’m intrigued by the adversities that
she was faced with but yet she continued
to stay the course. Her little black dress
heightened her career. She expanded
her brand by creating Chanel 5 perfume,
but many were unaware that she only
profited 0.05% from sales but yet she
continued to prevail from this setback.
In addition to that, she passed away in
1971. Coco Chanel is a household name.

This is your second year presenting
your collection on NYSFE. Tell us about
them?
I’ve found NYSFE to be phenomenal and
very informative about upcoming events.
I’ve encountered great opportunities both
during and after I showcased.
What do you think of your work?
As a self-taught designer, I cherish the
reputation I’ve earned! Consequently,
I concentrate on maintaining the
appreciated uniqueness and superb
quality of materials and craftsmanship
for each garment.

What is your greatest
accomplishment?
When I first started out my sizes were
0-8. I’m proud that I now have a versatile
line ranging from sizes 0-24. Anecdotally,
you’ve probably noticed the plummet in
plus and curvy high fashion and being
able to cater to those sizes is a great
accomplishment in my opinion.
06
Describe your creative process?
Since this is a saturated market I do
extensive research on trends, brainstorm
for different concepts and designs and
then begin creating my sample pieces.
07
How do you stay organized when
you’re provided with multiple design
ideas?
I take a pen and note pad with me
everywhere I go, I utilize some amazing
apps and time management is essential.
