From the Bandmaster
One of ways that the New York Staff Band has always impressed me is the way in which they honor alumni , keep them involved and really try to celebrate those that have come before the current band .
If I am being completely honest , the history of just about anything has never really been fascinating to me . I tend to live in the moment or maybe even try to live in the future while always trying to figure out what is next , how can we move forward and coming up with plans for days ahead .
It is interesting to have a mindset like that while also being entrusted as the leader of a group of men and women , and an organization that has such a rich heritage and celebrates the past so well .
In this edition of the New York Staff Band Bulletin , we will look at the rich heritage of the band and honor two gentlemen that have been a huge part of the band ’ s history having given immense leadership to this world class ensemble . Today we honor Vernon Post and Brian Bowen , who both served as the Bandmaster for the NYSB and were Promoted to Glory during this past season .
You will read all about the men they were , the leadership they provided , and find out a bit more about the impact they had on the men and women of the New York Staff Band and how that impact is still felt today .
I pray that as you read this special edition of the bulletin , you will get a sense of the rich fellowship , heritage , and life-changing ministry of the New York Staff Band .
