SAFETY TOWN
Safety Town has expanded
with help from Prototype
and Design students.
With graduation day right around the
corner, NWTC Prototype and Design
students were working diligently to
finish their final projects, which would
soon help teach safety skills to young
kids across the Green Bay area.
Inside of the newly renovated NWTC
Prototype and Design labs, small
scale replicas of well-known area
businesses brilliantly came to life. The
tiny structures when placed together
make up a model community β a place
just for kids known as Safety Town.
βItβs a summer safety camp that kids
can learn different safety items. From
pet safety, pedestrian safety and bike
safety,β said Kim Hess, Executive Director
of the Center for Childhood Safety.
Safety Town is a week-long summer camp
that has run for over 18 years and taught
safety skills to over 4,000 children in Brown
County and beyond. The program offers
classroom segments, guest presenters, and
hands-on experience on the streets of the
specially designed, child-sized Safety Town
complete with buildings, roads, pavement
markings, traffic signals, and street signs.
