C O M M U N I T Y M AT T E R S CHILDREN/YOUTH Boys & Girls Club Community Dinner NWTC’s Executive Leadership Team serves up a holiday dinner for the community. Whether young student or visitor, those walking through the doors of the Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay can count on one thing — a smile and support from volunteers and staff. The Boys & Girls Club of Green Bay offers a safe, inviting place to learn and grow – all while having fun. Club programs and services promote and enhance the development of boys and girls by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, and influence. Each year, Boys & Girls Club staff and employees prepare enough turkey, various sides and desserts to feed children, families, and members of the community to celebrate Thanksgiving with a traditional meal on the night before the national holiday. Demonstrating the value of connecting with the community, NWTC’s Executive Leadership Team enjoyed the opportunity to give of their time and serve a meal to families during the holiday season. Leading by example, NWTC has long offered the opportunity for volunteering embedded within employee’s annual professional development allotment. Volunteer programs have a positive impact on employee well-being, and when implemented correctly, can improve self-efficacy, productivity, emotional health, and physical health. From the perspective of Rachel Scheffen, NWTC Service-Learning & Civic Engagement Coordinator “NWTC is an extraordinarily special place that truly cares about its employees, students, and community. We are strongly encouraged to give back. Employees have volunteered in food pantries, supported local nonprofits, even worked to educate children abroad— all supported by the College.” Simply put, volunteering makes employees better, leading to better teams and a better campus. While Thanksgiving dinner comes just once each year, the feeling that comes from giving back lasts much longer for NWTC’s leaders and employees.
