MULTICULTURALISM
OF THE CURRICULUM
The College’s Strategic Directions state that all graduates will
possess the core employability skills necessary to continue to
learn while successfully engaged in a career. One of the key areas
of focus is to ensure that 100% of all programs at NWTC have
multiculturalism built into their curriculum. The overall goal is to
provide experiences for students to build their ability to:
• Work within and build up teams that are multicultural.
• Understand the influences and assumptions within their career
fields in order to be able to navigate cross-cultural intersections.
• Effectively navigate unfamiliar spaces and places (real or virtual).
• Resolve cross-cultural conflict.
Multicultural education allows learners to explore and evaluate the
impact of their own assumptions, behaviors, values, and
communication styles within a diverse society and workplace with
the intention to navigate and negotiate cross-cultural situations. To
achieve this outcome, employees and students must continuously
engage in experiences that allow them to seek new perspectives,
recognize their own biases, and utilize job-specific tools and
resources that foster critical thinking and cultural awareness.
Faculty, staff and students can also utilize the NWTC library
resources to find educational materials and expand one’s thinking.
