The Phlebotomy Certi�cate teaches blood-collecting techniques that include venipuncture , and skin punctures to provide samples necessary for lab analysis . Students also learn techniques and procedures needed to assist with various lab procedures , including specimen processing . The phlebotomist must recognize any conditions that might alter collections , correlate types of lab tests to the written diagnosis , and communicate with both the laboratory and the patients to provide the best care possible and assure specimen integrity .

Curriculum Note : Students must earn a " C " or higher in the following courses : Medical Terminology , Basic Lab Skills , and Phlebotomy . A student may repeat that particular course to achieve a “ C ” or better �nal grade in order to continue in or complete this certi�cate .
The credit for 10-890-101 , College 101 is an Institutional Requirement for graduation . Consequently , it is not part of the program credit requirements , but must be passed with a " C " or better .

10-513-110 BASIC LAB SKILLS ... explores laboratory science career options and the fundamental principles and procedures performed in the laboratory . You will utilize basic laboratory equipment . You will follow required safety and infection control procedures and perform simple laboratory tests .
