• Riders Cup — marked as “ RC ” on classes ; classes are open to ALL EXHIBITORS !
• Dressage — Horses can enter up to three Classical Dressage and three Western Dressage classes on Sunday .
• Bareback Pleasure — Trail Walk , Favorite Gait
• Novice Horse — Horse has not won a blue ribbon in a rail class at any National . Same applies for versatility novice classes .
• Novice Rider — Rider has not won a blue ribbon in a rail class at any National .
• Youth Riders – 17 years and under as of January 1 , 2023
• Youth Riders 11 yrs & under must wear approved ASTM safety helmet while mounted at all times .
• Intermediate Equitation Classes ( 13 ) is a two-gait class and for novice riders only ( not to have won a blue ribbon in stock seat or walking seat equitation at The National ) and may cross enter into 3 gait equitation classes ( 37 , 67 )
• Dressage : Dressage entries will be limited to 60 tests total . Entries are first come first serve . Pre-entries for dressage will be accepted until 9 / 18 / 23 . After that , entries will only be accepted as the schedule allows . Dressage entries received after the allotted tests are full will be placed on a waiting list in the order they are received . Ride times will be posted on the Nationals Show Page ( thenwhanational . com ) after the closing date . Dressage First Level Test of Choice and Western Dressage First Level Test of Choice riders will be able to ride up to three classes in this level if they choose this level for their three class distribution .
• Trail Obstacle , In Hand ( Class # 193 ) — Open to all horse ages
• Trail Obstacle Novice ( Class # 189 ONLY ) – Open to any horse / rider combo that has not won a Blue Ribbon in Trail Obstacle classes at any National . Western horses may ride two handed in an NWHA legal snaffle or shank bit IN THIS CLASS ONLY FOR 2023 .
• Classes split - 20 for youth only classes / 26 for adult , amateur and open classes
• Qualifying classes for Championships – qualifying class requirements / participation are the responsibility of the owner / trainer / rider . Should a horse / rider be found ineligible in a Championship Class due to non- participation or excused for any reason from the appropriate qualifying class ( s ), the entry is considered ineligible for said championship . In case of post entry ineligibility , the class ( s ) shall be re-tied and all related fees are non-refundable .
• Owner / Exhibitor / Horse receiving an HPA violation during The National forfeit all fees and any show premiums won by that entry .
• Show results are not considered official until certified by show management . Decisions by show management , DQP and judges are considered final . Protests may be filed as per the NWHA rulebook .
• All out of state horses present on show grounds must have a current 30 day health certificate .
• All horses on show grounds must have a current negative Coggins ( exception – horses 6 months or less ) – Copy must be on file in show office .
• Spotted Saddle Horse , Open Division , Regional Grand Championship — Show Walk , Show Gait
• Racking Horse , Open Division , Regional Grand Championship — Trail Pleasure Walk or Show Walk , Trail Pleasure Rack or Slow Rack
• Racking Horse , Open Division , Junior Horse 5 & Under — Trail Pleasure Walk or Show Walk , Trail Pleasure Rack or Slow Rack
• Optional Tack Championship — Western horses will NOT be required to perform a 360 degree turn in the line up
