NWHA on the Trail Competitive Horse Incentive Program (CHIP) This program is designed for NWHA members who compete in any type of competitive trail event such as competitive trail rides, stadium trail obstacle classes or endurance rides. Riders accrue mileage at competitive trail and endurance rides. Log books for rides need to be received at the NWHA office by January 7th of each year and must include contact information of the ride host or coordinator to validate attendance. Awards for CHIP are based on miles and awarded at the first 100 miles and every 250 mile increments thereafter. Trail miles will be counted in ¼ mile increments, with the miles rounded out to the nearest ¼ mile. Year end awards are presented at the NWHA Annual Membership Meeting. NWHA sanctioned endurance or competitive trail events will count double the actual amount of miles covered. Miles accumulate from January 1 thru December 31. There is a $25 lifetime, transferable nomination fee required for participation in CHIP. The fee can be transferred to a new owner in the event of the sale of the horse as long as NWHA is notified. Accomplishments in the CHIP will be viewable on the High Point tracking page of the NWHA website for all participating horses. As such, if you provide your miles to the NWHA office several times throughout the year, they will be uploaded onto the results page so that you can track your progress throughout the year.
