The Pegasus Award
The Pegasus Award, established in 2007, is an award to recognize a fellow NWHA member who has given outstanding service to our organization through donations of personal time, funds, and energy – helping NWHA to advance its mission for the horse. Guidelines: This NWHA member...
• Has continually provided help or aid to NWHA.
• Has made or is making an outstanding contribution to NWHA.
• Exemplifies the cause for which NWHA stands.
This year’ s Pegasus Award winner received not only ONE – but three nominations for this award.
Katie Tanner serves as NWHA’ s Treasurer, the Trail Committee Chairperson, the High Point Committee Chairperson and The National Show Committee Co-Chair. She rejuvenated the Trail Rider Incentive Program( TRIP) and the Competitive Horse Incentive Program( CHIP) and tripled both programs’ participation in four short years. She cochairs the annual Tail Wagging Trail Ride in Bastrop, Texas where each year has seen over 800 pounds of food donated to a local animal shelter. She is part of a small group of devoted NWHA Texas members that created a show series called the Texas Gaited Rumble Show Series. Each show has grown over the last several years and is expected to continue to grow and promote the sound Tennessee Walking Horse as well as showcasing the Rocky Mountain Horse and the Paso Fino. She also serves as a DQP, is an AOT rider that trains and shows several National Grand Champions and serves our country in the United States Air Force. Katie can continually be counted on to share the load with her fellow board members in running this all-volunteer association. During the two years she has been a board member, she and the Board of Directors have set NWHA on a path for success by eliminating it’ s debt, making smart financial decisions, continually communicating with it’ s members and striving to provide more benefits to its members.
One of her nominations stated,“ This person is without a doubt, one of the most driven human beings I have ever befriended. This person’ s selfless commitment to NWHA is evident in her tireless efforts – devotion to spending personal time and energy to make NWHA events better than any other. Her contribution of funds, DQP services and volunteer hours are immeasurable. She has continuously put NWHA and its mission before her own life and needs. And in addition to all of this – she even manages to show a number of NWHA champions as well. I cannot think of a person who has taken on more for the organization, and I wholeheartedly believe this recognition is deserved.”
