Jim Potter—New London, OH

Chairperson
Jim has been training flat shod Tennessee
Walking Horses professionally since
1988. He began by working part time
out of a boarding barn with a few horses
and now has a place of his own with 26
stalls. In addition to training 20+ horses,
his customers consist primarily of middle
aged (plus or minus) women, which
proves that he has a lot of patience. Jim
has served on the TWHBEA Board of
Directors as an Ohio representative. He
has been on the NWHA board for 7 years
- 5 years as a trustee, 1 year as Secretary
and now as Vice President. He is known
for taking 15-20 horses to NWHA shows
throughout the region and particularly
enjoys working with young horses to
develop them to their full potential. He
is devoted to training sound, flat shod
walking horses that his customers can
show and enjoy.

Barb Hanes—Scottsdale, AZ
Western Region Director
Barb Hanes brings her experience to
the gaited horse community with over
40 years as a professional trainer. Her
training philosophy has always been
based on the basic principles of classical
dressage. This combined with a keen eye,
and a patient, consistent approach to the
needs and levels of each individual horse
and rider have proven to be successful for
her clients. Barb has owned, trained, bred,
shown and coached horses and riders to
numerous state, regional and national
championship titles in a multitude
of disciplines and divisions, including
National Grand Championship titles in
flat shod English and Western divisions,
Competitive Trail and most recently the
2015 NWHA National Champion High
Point Training Level Dressage Horse. In
addition to operating her training
business, Barb is an adjunct professor
in the Equine Science Department at
Scottsdale Community College, a position
she’s held for 30 years. She is currently
an NWHA apprentice judge and an
NWHA Certified Trainer. When Barb is
not in the ring or at the campus, she can
be found instructing the Scottsdale, AZ
Police Mounted Unit; providing her time
to “Horsense”, a non-profit organization
that focuses on high risk urban youth
and providing clinics and symposiums to
gaited horse owners.

Mag has been involved with Walking
Horses since 1971 when introduced
to them in college. Since then she has
owned, trained, shown, bought, sold
and raised many Tennessee Walking
Horses. She was an Ohio TWHBEA
director for several terms and served on
the Pleasure Committees for TWHBEA
and WHOA. She is the long time
President of the Mid-Ohio Walking Horse
Association. In 2015, she became an
NWHA Board member and is devoted
to the promotion of the sound flat shod
Tennessee Walking Horse.
