Meet Your
2017 National
Dressage Judge!
Karen Winn grew up riding hunters in Princeton, New Jersey. She discov-
ered dressage and eventing while in college at the University of Massa-
chusetts, and was hooked right away. Upon graduation with a degree in
Animal Science, she moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where she taught rid-
ing at the University of Kentucky and Midway College. She was involved
in many aspects of the Thoroughbred horse business in Lexington, but
maintained her sport horse world connection while showing in eventing
and upper level dressage, and earning her USDF Bronze and Silver med-
als. Karen returned to the University of Kentucky for a second degree in
Accounting, and has since worked at the American Hanoverian Society,
the US Pony Clubs, and the American Saddlebred Horse Association. She
currently works as the accountant for the Kentucky Horse Park Founda-
tion. Karen is a “R” Dressage Judge, and an FEI ***/**** Eventing Judge;
she was one of the first licensed Western Dressage judges, and also is an
Eventing Technical Delegate and FEI Eventing Chief Steward. She occa-
sionally shows her homebred Thoroughbred horse in dressage and event-
ing, and her Black and Tan Coonhounds in conformation, agility, and
obedience.
