On June 28-30, 2018 we had 16 Youth attend Youth / Young Adult Camp. The drop off time was 12 on Thursday. Joellen Finerfrock( the previous camp Mom), Jessica Ellis( previous camp Participant), Mikal Spooner( previous camp Mom), and I quickly got the kids on horses to evaluate each camper. All 13 girls and 3 boys were very accomplished riders— no one hesitated to push the horses through all speeds. Dr. Bri from Breezeway Sporthorse Medicine came by to discuss a stretching and acupuncture talk. Then we pulled another round of horses out. Everyone enjoyed riding horses from Racking, All Day Pleasure, Country Pleasure, Trail Pleasure, and Lite Shod divisions. Most of these horses were multi-titled International and National Champions.
By the end of riding, we were all sweaty and ready to sit and listen to the important information given by Christina Reynolds( previous camp participant) Triple Crown Feed Representative. All learned about what the feed tags mean and different types of nutrients. Plus, the campers learned about the importance of over-all wellness of your horse. The group then retired to Trish Comninak’ s house for painting picture frames, taking our group shot, and a potato bar for dinner. Finally we cooled off completely by swimming in Aunt Marcia Daniels pool.

Day 2 started off early. The campers of course helped feed and then headed to Trish’ s for a wonderful breakfast. We started off Friday with Alaina Parsons Cross( previous camp participant) NC 4-h Horse program director, teaching us about judging conformation. There were 3 groups of two horses. Each horse had their conformation analyzed and then gaited under saddle to show how it effects the movement. Russell Hill, farrier extraordinary, was able to tell us about shoeing the Tennessee Walking Horse. He graciously answered all questions!
