Here are some other budget-friendly interior tricks you can do to complement your color-drenched walls.
• Ditch those bedside lamps and create romance by hanging pendant lights above your nightstands.
• Place vintage photos in gold or silver frames on small easels throughout your home. The frames can often be found for cheap at antique malls and thrift stores.
• Give your main rooms a refresh by simply updating the light fixtures.
• Get rid of that dead wall space. When in doubt, hang oversize art and mirrors, or add wood paneling and give it a coat of paint to make it more multidimensional.
• Instead of only adding one or two throw pillows at each end of your sofa, add three. Having three gives it a plusher feel with extra texture, often making it look more expensive than it actually is.
color drenching, or go all in with the color. You can even go all the way into the ceilings with it! But just because you’ re using the same paint color in a room doesn’ t mean you should necessarily use the same type of paint throughout. For this endeavor, my recommendation is to find approximately three of your favorite rooms in your home to color drench. Three is a key number for an average-size home, because doing only one room can feel random and more than three may feel a bit overdone, particularly if you’ re new to the concept and aren’ t mixing up some other elements with it throughout your home. Three rooms that are, generally speaking, ideal for color drenching are the great room *, a keeping room **, and a formal dining room. It can also be divine in a primary bedroom.
Color drenching can make a room look rich with a nominal investment. So go big and be a design trailblazer. Because at the end of the day, it’ s just paint. If after your monochromatic journey you feel like it’ s just too much or you opted for the wrong color, you can always paint over it and get a fresh start.
* The term“ keeping room” typically implies a small gathering room for sitting, often, but
not always, adjacent to a kitchen.
** A great room is a large room that usually serves several functions, like a dining room or
living room.
