The views at nearby Amicalola Falls State Park are particularly stunning, as it’ s located within the Chattahoochee National Forest and is noted for its most famous feature, Amicalola Falls, which, at more than 700 feet, is the tallest cascading waterfall in the state.
For something a little different, add a visit to the Red Oak Lavender Farm to your itinerary. It boasts 20 different types of lavender, from the Royal Velvet variety used in foods such as ice cream and lemonade to the aromatic Grosso hybrid lavender found in sachets, oils, and other scented items. Be sure to stop in the gift shop, if only to take in the aroma.
Amid all that exploring, you’ ll need some sustenance, and Dahlonega’ s dining options don’ t disappoint. Spirits Tavern, on the downtown square, has a festive vibe and is known for fun dishes like the Dragon’ s Breath burger piled high with fried onion straws, hickorysmoked bacon, horseradish mayo, and Swiss cheese, and the Off the Leash hot dog slathered with chili, cheddar cheese, onion straws, jalapeños, Fritos, and sour cream. A short stroll away is a little spot called Reens’ Bratzeit & Biergarten, featuring a menu of tasty German and Eastern European specialties such as bratwurst, schnitzel, sauerkraut, and spaetzle. Relatively new on the scene is Public House Kitchen & Cocktails, where diners can grab a seat inside or out on the patio and enjoy mouthwatering menu items like pork belly tacos, maple bourbon salmon, meatloaf, and short rib ravioli.
