NVCT Annual Report 2018 Annual Report FY2018 (15) | Page 3

LOOKING AHEAD Dear NVCT Family , This past year has been very exciting for us with six new lands protected , three new energetic staff members joining our team , and many wonderful outreach and stewardship events held across our community . We are very honored to both look back at 25 successful years of land and water conservation in Northern Virginia while also moving boldly into the future . Together we ’ ve already left an indelible mark on our region by protecting more than 7,000 amazing acres of forests , wetlands , meadows , farms , and streams for all time . Now we must do even more . In just the past year , we took over management of our very first wetland mitigation sites , preserved one of the last two remaining private land holdings at Pohick Bay Regional Park , and finalized a partnership with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation to ensure the proper long - term management of our 70- acre Great Blue Heron Rookery at Crow ' s Nest Natural Area Preserve . NVCT has also remade our website and our organizational logo this year as part of a fresh rebranding of our identity that includes a five minute documentary video of some of the key places and people that represent our success over the last 25 years . With the reintroduction of our Explore and Restore campaign that will engage diverse audiences in the outdoors as well as new grant funding to allow us to map and preserve our region ’ s most important watersheds , we are innovating to meet Northern Virginia ’ s open space challenges . And there ’ s so much more ! I hope you will continue to support and engage with us as we work to protect the places that matter to us all . Sincerely , Alan Rowsome Executive Director   Annual Report | Fiscal Year 2018 | 3
