Breathing ideas to life
Nuutajärvi has always been known for developing new ideas . The glass village is internationally known for its coloured glass skills . The triumphal march of coloured glass started in the 1950s with Kaj Franck , who brought strong green , blue and ruby tones to serial production glass as well as art glass . Glass lovers were excited about the colours , as mostly clear glass had been used until then . Franck also started the strong development of artistic techniques , something that still stands out in the works of today ’ s glass artists and glassblowers . Development work is concentrated in the hot shop of Lasikomppania , a glassmakers ’ society founded and run by the glass village ’ s artisans . They seek limits , but limits are not very easily reached – luckily .
