Highlights of the 2016 CNS-SCN Thematic Conference
Attending the 2016 CNS-SCN Thematic Conference: Advances in Nutrition and Metabolic Syndrome held at the Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre Hotel was a great experience for all those who wanted to gain knowledge on updates in nutrition, metabolism, and health. The conference welcome word was given by Dr. David Ma( Conference Chair), and Dr. Sarah Robbins( CNS President). The conference organizing committee included Dr. Mary L’ Abbé, PhD and Dr. Johane Allard, MD, FRCPC from the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Toronto.
The CNS-SCN thematic conference gathered leading experts from Canada and the United States in the field of nutrition and metabolism providing key presentations in the role of diet in general, micronutrients & macronutrients in particular, and different life stages in metabolic disease risk. Poster presentations also included other hot topics related to food metabolism and risk of metabolic syndrome, including community nutrition, nutrigenomics, and gut microbiota. The poster break sessions were very interactive and a great networking event. The conference attendees were a mix of health professionals, a majority of which were Registered Dietitians and graduate students from the University of Toronto and University of Guelph. The conference concluded by providing latest updates on research pertaining to fat intake and cardiometabolic risk. A very inspiring closing word was given by the Conference Chair, Dr. David Ma, PhD.
The CNS Thematic Conference is held under the auspices of Continuing Professional Development, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and the Canadian Nutrition Society. Therefore, educational credits can be obtained for a continuing medical education.
