We also identified and escalated awareness of the behavioral health crisis in youth and helped study the impact of the pandemic and remote learning for school-aged children . A message from Pat Givens

As we continued to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic throughout 2021 , we collectively learned about the true meaning of resilience and teamwork . These uncertain times continue to challenge us both as professionals and as individuals . Fortunately , healthcare professionals from across our system are here to meet that challenge . We have learned that when we join together for a goal and cause we all believe in , we can achieve wonderful things together . This past year was marked by a number of amazing achievements .
Exceptional clinical care , leadership and teamwork throughout the Division of Patient Care Services enabled us to support those most vulnerable and help protect our team members , the children and families we gratefully serve . Our incredible team at Children ’ s Colorado has been instrumental in creative problem-solving throughout the pandemic . By hosting clinical trials with the largest and most diverse study population , Children ’ s Colorado played a central role in the effort to clinically validate Pfizer ’ s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11 years . The overarching themes this past year were courage , creativity , tenacity and teamwork — indeed , we are better together . Our 2021 PCS Annual Report aims to recognize and memorialize contributions and notable moments . These stories come from across our System of Care and demonstrate our sincere commitment to excellence in pediatric care . Our nurses and team members have inspired us all in countless ways as they continue to build a meaningful culture , guided by a true sense of purpose in the care and service we provide . I am grateful each and every day that I get to work alongside my Children ’ s Colorado team members .
Despite unprecedented challenges over the past two years , it has been with great pride that I have partnered with you in the discovery of new and innovative ways to deliver quality care to the children and families we serve . As Children ’ s Colorado continues to grow , evolve and progress , we have welcomed a number of promising new graduates , new team members and new leaders to our team . Our intentional stewardship of the nursing profession will propel us to a bright future as we continue to move forward and face adversity together in these ever-changing times .
As we answer the call to serve children and their families , there is no question that we are truly better together . The collective spirit of teamwork we share gives me hope that we will conquer whatever challenges come our way in 2022 and beyond .
