2021 Nursing Grand Rounds
The purpose of Nursing Grand Rounds is to disseminate EBP , QI , program evaluation or pediatric research findings that have the potential to improve healthcare outcomes and / or enhance the patient , family and staff experience . All interested team members are invited to attend . The learner outcome for participants is to identify best practices and innovations within the healthcare delivery system to share with colleagues in the workplace .
April 8 , 2021 ( virtual ) “ Marijuana Legalization & Neonatal Care Research & Recommendations ” Catie Baessler , BSN , RNC-NIC | CN IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit | Children ’ s Hospital Colorado The purpose of this presentation was to review recent research regarding the implications of marijuana use during pregnancy and the neonatal impacts of exposure to marijuana in human milk , as outlined in the National Association of Neonatal Nurses 2020 Position statement . This presentation addressed marijuana trends in Colorado and recommendations for medical providers when counseling families regarding the safety of marijuana use .
May 13 , 2021 ( virtual ) “ Confidential Screening for Sex Trafficking Among High-Risk Minors in a Pediatric Emergency Department ” Denise Abdoo , PhD , CPNP Assistant Professor of Pediatrics | University of Colorado School of Medicine Child Protection Team | Children ’ s Hospital Colorado The purpose of this presentation was to highlight risk factors for sexual trafficking and share findings from a confidentially administered , validated screening tool in the CHCO pediatric emergency department using an electronic tablet to identify minors at risk for sex trafficking .

Scott , BSN , RN , CPEN | Associate Clinical Manager | Special Care Clinic The purpose of this presentation was to describe a patient safety event in Primary Care during 2020 that shed light on the need for early nursing assessment , rapid escalation of care , the importance of EMR assessment documentation , and the value of communication between triage and in-clinic RNs regarding same day sick appointments . This also highlighted the importance for continued development of ambulatory nursing competence and confidence to improve patient outcomes .
