2021 Margi Morse Clinical Award Recognizing Excellence ( CARE ) Award
The Margi Morse CARE award was established in 2017 in honor of Margi Morse , the first director of advanced practice at Children ’ s Hospital . The award was created to recognize an advanced practice provider for the excellent clinical care they provide to patients and their families at Children ’ s Colorado . It recognizes the incredible work APPs do in the areas of clinical excellence , compassion , commitment to advancing patient care , innovation and leadership . In 2021 , there was an amazing pool of nominees , making the selection process especially challenging — which led to two winners for the first time !

Arletta Swain-Cockrell , MS , RN , CPNP , Senior Instructor , Psychiatry , Anschutz Arletta Swain-Cockrell has been with Children ’ s Colorado for more than 30 years and has been instrumental in collaborating with adolescent medicine and psychiatry to develop , maintain and grow the Medical Day Treatment ( MDT ) program , one of the first in the country , and she was the clinical manager of the MDT program for several decades . As a liaison with the “ Yellow Team ” inpatient medical service , she is available for consultation for any chronic or acute medical conditions / concerns for the patients treated at all levels of care in the Pediatric Mental Health Institute ( PMHI ). Swain-Cockrell serves in the important role as a Captain of Inclusion in PMHI . Long prior to that program and role , Swain-Cockrell was a staunch advocate for ensuring the needs of patients of color were met . She continues to contribute through community and hospital-wide advocacy efforts , including the Advanced Practice Council Committee on Diversity , Heath Equity and Inclusion .
James “ Matt ” Bershinsky , MS , PA-C , Orthopedics , Outpatient Specialty Care at Briargate Matt Bershinsky has been with Children ’ s Colorado for 10 years and is recognized for providing excellent care to our patients and families . In addition , he maintains a highly demanding military appointment spanning 21 years . Bershinsky serves as the deputy commander for the 624th Regional Support Group , Hickam AFB , Hawaii . The 624th is the largest Air Force presence in the Pacific and is comprised of four units located at Joint Base Pearl Harbor and two units at Andersen Air Force Base in Guam . In the height of the early COVID-19 pandemic , Bershinsky volunteered at the Bronx New York , Lincoln Hospital , where he and his team spent two months working at the bedside of gravely ill COVID patients . Bershinsky has been instrumental in expanding his practice which has become one of the busiest outpatient specialty clinics in the Children ’ s Colorado system . His clinical care , clear communication and compassion directly influence our pediatric primary care community in choosing Children ’ s Colorado as their preferred pediatric orthopedic destination .
