This recognition program serves to honor what nurses do for patients and families every day . Nurses can be nominated for this award by anyone in the organization , including patients , families , peers , providers , or any team member that observes extraordinary care being provided by a nurse . Children ’ s Hospital Colorado began honoring DAISY awardees in 2006 and at that time , Brenda Washington , BS , operations coordinator in professional development , became the DAISY Award recognition program coordinator and has continued in that role for the last 16 years .
Since 2006 , Children ’ s Colorado has honored 234 nurses with DAISY Awards . From 2006-2011 , only three nurses were awarded per period , which was expanded to four awards per period from 2012-2015 . It wasn ’ t until 2016 , that Children ’ s Colorado began the practice of awarding eight people per period .
Please note that the 2021 third period Daisy Award winners and presentations will be included in the 2022 Patient Care Services Year in Review .
