An Experience With the Colorado
Governors Fellowship Program
In 2019, Patrick Loney, MBA, BSN, RN, Director of Patient
Care Services, had the opportunity to participate in the
Colorado Governors Fellowship Program. Launched in 2016,
the Program helps inspire Colorado business and nonprofit
leaders’ belief in what government can be and prepares
them for the tremendous opportunities they will have
and new challenges they will face when they serve in the
public sector. The Program has received valuable input and
support from all living Colorado governors.
Over the course of a year, 25 leaders from around the state
participated in didactic and experiential learning. Patrick
was fortunate to be a part of this group, he says, because as
he learned about the state’s government, he began to think
more about how he and the other participants would give
back to their communities and the state after the conclusion
of the program.
Patrick’s experience included hearing from several
amazing speakers, shadowing the attorney general and
his team for a day, and participating in a capstone project
that aimed to coordinate the progression of the state’s
environmental improvements. Patrick says he was inspired
by the incredible dedication of those who work in local and
state government, and he’d like to find a way to contribute
to the state in the future, possibly serving on a board or
commission.
