GROWTH WITHIN THE NURSING PROFESSION

Executive
In 1974, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) proclaimed that May 12 would be
“international Nurse Day.” (May 12 is the

Michelle Avila Emerson Scholarship
The Friends of Nursing program was created to promote the profession of nursing in our community, inspire continued education through scholarships and educational opportunities at
Sierra View District Hospital. From there, the Michelle Avila Emerson Scholarship Program
was developed to encourage students to consider a career in nursing and for current nurses to
strive for higher level degrees and certifications. Congratulations to Sierra View’s own Torri
Cardoza-Lee from Critical Care Services for being this year’s recipient recognizing her
achievement of her Master’s of Science in Nursing and Joanna Madrigal Cerrillo, recipient of
the scholarship on behalf of the Porterville High School Academy of Health.
