Breaking Barriers and Getting to the Next Level with the Greater Washington Urban League

George H. Lambert, Jr. President and CEO of the Greater Washington Urban League( GWUL), has had a long leadership history with the Urban League Movement. The organization does a good deal of work of leveling the playing field to help African Americans and other people of color live more fulfilling lives. As an affiliate of the National Urban League, the Greater Washington Urban League parallels the focus of the National Urban League. Locally, the focus is also on civil right activism, housing equality, economic empowerment, education, workforce development, and health and wellness. Their programs include a variety of housing purchase programs, a robust entrepreneurship program, a longstanding scholarship program, workforce development services, and several stop-gap programs to forestall foreclosure, eviction and / or termination of utility services( gas, water or electricity).
