Breaking Barriers and Getting to the Next Level with the Greater Washington Urban League
George H . Lambert , Jr . President and CEO of the Greater Washington Urban League ( GWUL ), has had a long leadership history with the Urban League Movement . The organization does a good deal of work of leveling the playing field to help African Americans and other people of color live more fulfilling lives . As an affiliate of the National Urban League , the Greater Washington Urban League parallels the focus of the National Urban League . Locally , the focus is also on civil right activism , housing equality , economic empowerment , education , workforce development , and health and wellness . Their programs include a variety of housing purchase programs , a robust entrepreneurship program , a longstanding scholarship program , workforce development services , and several stop-gap programs to forestall foreclosure , eviction and / or termination of utility services ( gas , water or electricity ).
