ANTHEA NAUTA

PHOTOGRAPHY BY MICHELLE DELLIS

There's a little saying in my husbae's family:

"If you're not Dutch, you're not much"

I'm not Dutch.

But The Sisters (they are actually sisters) are, and Esther and Naomi are the creative definition of much. Their floral installations have cast a spell over Australia's eyes.

In fact, their work is basically the real life representation of the '100' emoji.

It's mind.blowing.

LET'S START AT THE BEGINNING. WHY FLORISTRY?

Naomi was doing floristry for six years before our story started. We both always said we wanted to work together doing something with design so when we were asked to buy a little shop, we just threw ourselves into it.

The passion for flowers is ingrained in us, I think. The Dutch background we grew up with where if you pop over to a friend's house then you take flowers, or even just growing up with flowers always being in the house, it just feels so natural to us.

Our darling grandmother was a painter, too. Using our hands and using colour and nature is what we know!
