18 years old. During basic training, a soldier experiences tension headaches and back pain. He is referred to a-chiropractic physician( DC)- at the base medical center.
Chiropractic services are part of the standard Medical Benefits Package available to all eligible Veterans. Services are provided on station, or through community care at all medical centers. 1
PATIENT’ S AGE
22 y. o. Patient is injured in combat and receives“ Battlefield Acupuncture”— a procedure first used successfully at the Walter Reed Medical Center during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
29 y. o. The patient’ s injury requires multiple surgeries. He continues seeing a-chiropractic physician- as part of his recovery plan, and receives-acupuncture through Veterans Choice Services for pain management.
21 years old. The patient experiences headaches and cramping with premenstrual syndrome. She begins-acupunctureand consults a-naturopathic physician- to manage her symptoms.
PATIENT’ S AGE
30 y. o. The patient and her OB / GYN decide she will see a-naturopathic physicianfor infertility before trying a pharmaceutical regimen. Both she and her partner adjust diet and learn stress reduction techniques. They begin-acupuncture and herbal therapy- to balance hormones.
32 y. o. After giving birth, the patient consults a DC for overall wellness and to provide health care to her growing family. Her-ND- prescribes supplementation to support breastfeeding and postpartum healing.
40 y. o. After retirement, the patient seeks treatment for PTSD. Acupuncture and moxibustion, are provided by a licensed acupuncturist. A Naturopathic. Physician( ND) is added to the health care team to provide support for overall health.
Veterans Affairs( VA) DCs are integrated with primary care, rehabilitation, pain management and other specialty teams.²
55 y. o. VA benefits provide the patient with-chiropractic- care to alleviate pain and joint stiffness associated with his battle injury.
31 y. o. She sees a-chiropractic physicianto optimize pelvic adjustment to facilitate better birth outcome.
55 y. o. In menopause, the patient seeks care to help manage her hot flashes / night sweats from an-ND.- She works with the ND to find the right hormone replacement therapy( HRT) and to prevent osteoporosis
( bone density loss).
Studies suggest that chiropractic treatments can ease labor pain and reduce the need for Cesarean deliveries. 3
70 y. o. The patient continues receiving-chiropractic care- to support an active lifestyle, including balance training and fall prevention. Her-ND- recommends diet adjustments and supplementation to support overall gut health.
