Padre Rutilo Riego founds El Centro Católico, now Spanish Catholic Center, and the Span-
ish Education Development Center (SED Center) opens. A group of students from Georgetown University sets up a legal clinic on Columbia Road
that becomes Ayuda, with Richard Gutiérrez as its first Executive Director.
