EBBE: We’ve recently seen
some encouraging metrics
for Second Life, and as we
continue to improve it, I’m
optimistic that may continue.
However, I think our biggest
opportunity for growth for the
future is the next-generation
virtual world we’re working on.
The next-gen platform should
avoid some of the problems
with Second Life that currently
limit its growth - for example, it
will be easier to use, accessible
from multiple devices, more
performant, etc. - and should
be better able to capitalize
on the strong interest we
continue to see for virtual world
experiences.
NVM: With the number
of privately owned sims
shrinking at a rapid rate,
what is LL’s marketing plan
for SL’s membership base to
regrow the community?
EBBE: I’d recommend against
trying to draw conclusions
from private region numbers
as a singular data point, out
of context; the speculation
we’ve seen from some in the
community stemming from
that figure often includes some
pretty off-base assumptions.
