Overall , the trend themes next winter are about a desire for more sustainability and a more circular approach to fashion . This mentality can be seen both in production techniques and in terms of aesthetics . For instance , there is renewed interest in reducing volume and thereby surplus production in order to avoid dead stock . Work are in progress to avoid for instance unused bits from manufacturing – the industry wants to fed back more surplus fabrics from production into the process to minimise waste . Aesthetically , the desire to reuse can be seen in clothes that are being cut up and put together in new ways . But it is primarily the avant garde that actually produce in this way where you will see things such as plaids being reused for dresses or old quilts used to make jackets . In the fast fashion segment , the theme becomes apparent in for instance sewn on “ patches ”, raw hems , and so on . Repairing clothes with what happens to be at hand in creative and artistic ways is exalted . The COVID-19 situation has meant an increased use of digital platforms in the fashion industry . Both the design and sales sides of things have been challenged , and new digital ways of working together have emerged . In periods , many people have worked from home which has increased demand for clothing that matches the WFH - Work From Home - situation . So a relaxed , casual lounge look has dominated the entire industry . Early in the coronavirus pandemic , a 283 per cent increase in global online sales of casual wear was recorded ( period in 2020 compared to same period in 2019 ). There ’ s also a new concept called Above Keyboard Dressing in which clothing and accessories for the upper part of the body and face are in focus . The above is part of the background for the three trends that NU is describing in collaboration with Anja Bisgaard Gaede , trend expert and owner of the trend bureau SPOTT .
