Spotlight on north texas
Tower 55
Traffic jams on highways cause
commuters quite a headache, but a
tie-up at a north-south and east-west
freight train intersection is a migraine.
The congestion of Tower 55, the Fort
Worth intersection used by 90 trains
daily, including those operated by BNSF
Railway, Union Pacific Railroad, The T
and Amtrak, eased considerably with
the completion of a major expansion
project. The $104 million project
not only alleviated train traffic, but
updates to several pedestrian and car
crossings eased neighborhood street
congestion. Additionally, the project
is expected to reduce carbon dioxide
emissions by 95,000 tons per year.
