2016 5th Texas junior cup matches The Northern Texas PGA hosted the Southern Texas PGA at the 5th Annual Texas Junior Cup Matches at White Bluff Resort in Whitney, Texas on Saturday, November 5 Sunday, November 6. In this year’s Matches, the NTPGA team retained the Texas Junior Cup, outscoring the STPGA team 14.5 to 9.5 points. The Texas Junior Cup Matches is an annual competition between the Northern and Southern Texas PGA Junior Tours’ top six boys and top six girls aged 9-12. The Ryder Cup style format features 9-hole Scramble and Four-Ball Matches the first day followed by 9-hole Singles Matches on the final day. The Matches provide a unique, one-of-akind experience for each Tour’s younger and more experienced junior golfers. Day One of the tournament got off to a late start with a three-hour weather delay before the start of the first match. Neither team took a decisive lead during the morning Mixed Four-Ball Matches as the NTPGA and STPGA teams each earned 3 points. Team NTPGA took the lead after an impressive showing in the Scramble Matches, winning four and halving one of the afternoon matches to secure 4.5 points for the team. The NTPGA started Day Two with a 7.5 to 4.5 point lead but struggled early in the Singles Matches dropping the first two matches of the day. The Singles Matches were c haracterized by tough competition, but, in the end, the NTPGA emerged victorious after winning seven Singles Matches. The NTPGA retained the Texas Junior Cup for the third straight year, finishing the event 14.5 to 9.5 over the STPGA.
