COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
Northern Distribution Center
In addition to the current Distribution Center in South Dallas, a new Northern Distribution Center is planned for Collin County, near the intersection of the President George Bush Turnpike and Coit Road. This location will significantly reduce distribution costs, greatly improve public visibility for the NTFB and provide an opportunity to grow relationships with donors, volunteers and other supporters who live and work in one of the fastest-growing regions in our nation.
Set on 13 acres, the approximately 200,000-square-foot facility will house 60,000 square feet of dry warehouse space, 70,000 square feet of refrigerated warehouse space, 12,000 square feet of office space, seven refrigerated docks, 11 dry docks and a 28,000-square-foot volunteer center with the capacity to accommodate up to 400 volunteers per day. It will also include a Community Garden that will serve as a real-life farm and nutrition education classroom for volunteers and visitors to the Northern Distribution Center.
“ It is with great pleasure that our family collectively supports the Stop Hunger Build Hope capital campaign. Through this gift, we recognize and honor our grandmother Lula Mae Perot and our Aunt Bette
Perot while encouraging subsequent generations of our family to make sure our neighbors are fed with love, hope and compassion.”
- KATHERINE PEROT REEVES, Capital Campaign Lead Donor and Committee Member, NTFB Board Member
PEROT FAMILY HISTORY During the depression, Lula Mae and Gabriel Perot provided food to hungry travelers who came through their town of Texarkana, TX on trains. The“ X” that was written in chalk on their curb began to signify that theirs was a home that would share food with hungry people. When their son, Ross, offered to wash off the marking on the curb, Lula Mae replied,“ Absolutely not. These folks are just like us, only down on their luck.” Lula Mae instilled a legacy of service to others in her children, Ross and Bette, which is being carried on today by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The North Texas Food Bank is grateful for the Perot Family’ s multigenerational commitment to its mission and pleased to recognize their overwhelming investment at the“ Perot Family Campus” at the Northern Distribution Center in Plano.
