A Message from Jan Pruitt, President and CEO
Dear Friends,
Fiscal Year 2015 was a year of change and growth for the North Texas Food Bank.
We were thrilled to move our administrative headquarters to the Dallas Farmers
Market to better connect NTFB with the thriving business and residential
communities in Downtown Dallas. As we continue to focus on nutrition, we
were proud to distribute a record-breaking 19 million pounds of fresh fruits and
vegetables to our neighbors in need. With the opening of Our Community Pantry,
we have been better able to serve the food-insecure population in South Dallas
while providing a test-lab and model pantry for our Partner Agencies.
While we have made much progress, in FY 2015 we learned that there is still much
work to be done: Feeding America’s Hunger in America study found that some 92
million meals are needed annually to meet the current need for food assistance in
our 13-county service area.
As we work to close the hunger gap in our community, we must become more strategic about our work: We’ll
need to build a more connected community of hunger fighters who can give their time, voice, food, and monetary
donations to end hunger in North Texas. Our partnerships with local food pantries and community organizations will
need to adapt to our changing community. Most importantly, we’ll need to work to truly understand the needs of
our clients — the children, seniors and families who face hunger — to understand how we can best serve their longterm needs.
