NTPGC Charity Golf Day
On Friday afternoon 16 August 2013 the Northern
Territory Police Golf Club (NTPGC) again hosted the
annual ‘Police Legacy’ charity golf day at the Darwin
Golf Club. 32 teams totalling 160 competitors from
police and partner agencies hacked away diligently at
Peter Thompson’s pristine championship layout.
Many thanks must go to the numerous volunteers
who helped organise the day as well as those who took
charge of drink carts, sold raffle tickets and helped out
with the BBQ.
Heads turned yet again when the “Golfin Cheaters”
from Katherine rocked up to the Clubhouse proudly
displaying their Outlaw Motorcycle Gang colours.
Others in the ‘best dressed’ department included the
CATStones, X-Men, SkidMarx, Peds r Us and the Bean
Counters who once again clearly demonstrated their
commitment to police legacy.
Numerous local businesses supported the day by
donating prizes which were used for fundraising raffles,
overall net & gross winners, place getters, longest
drives and nearest to the pins.
Finishing at the top of the leader board was “Charlie
1” who ironically won the Commissioner’s Trophy as
well as securing the major raffle prize of a ‘gunsafe’ bar
fridge. Other winners included the “Ill Eagle Parkers”,
“Palmerston Bashers” and “The Phat Porkers.” “The
CATStones” collected numerous prizes, none better
than a tennis racquet each for finishing in last place
which is also colloquially known as the NAGA (Not a
Golfer’s Arsehole) prize.
The Sharp Shooters on the par 3s were Dean Jenkins
and Craig Windebank. “GripnRip” and “Weapons of
Grass Destruction” won the longest drives.
This year, we donated $10,000 to NT Police Legacy
bringing the total to $40,000 over the past 4 years. The
club appreciates the overwhelming support each year
from police members, partner agencies, volunteers,
sponsors and the NTPGC committee.
The Australian Police Golf Championships will be held
in Alice Springs in 2014 from 23 to 28 March 2014 where
250 police golfers from all over the country will travel to
the red centre.
Weekly 9-hole afternoon golf competitions continue
to be held in Darwin and Alice Springs each Tuesday
afternoon. New members are welcome for a social hit
regardless of golfing ability.
