Buddy Sports
Sampler (New!)
Each week we will gear up and hit the field as we learn
a new and exciting team sport! We will review the basics, warm up with our
teammates, practice and then play a friendly game together. Note: Buddy
Sports Sampler is not a competitive program. Participants should
come dressed in athletic clothing and gym shoes.
Goals: Develop skills and an understanding of a variety of team sports.
Foster social interaction and teamwork.
Buddies: We need you!
We are looking for volunteers age 10 - 17 ready to share in the fun and
excitement that is Buddy Sports! As a buddy, you will be paired with an
athlete with special needs as he or she learns to play a variety of team sports.
Help us create a program where everyone can have fun and experience
sports in an exciting and successful atmosphere. While there is no fee for
buddies, you must register to be a buddy.
Buddies will meet Tuesday, June 11, the week before program, for
orientation. Buddies will learn about the participants and receive
program details.

Gator Volleyball
Gator athletes will learn the rules of volleyball, develop skills, practice and play in competitions. Gator athletics
emphasizes sportsmanship, fundamentals and rules of the game. The first few weeks will consist of practicing and
conditioning.
Note: During the first week, athletes will take a Skills Assessment Test to determine participation in the program for the season, as well
as to gain eligibility for Special Olympics Illinois competitions. Athletes will also be divided into teams. For the remainder of the season,
weekly games will be played at both home and away locations. In addition, athletes will compete in both Special Olympics (S.O.) and
ITRS tournaments. All athletes must have a current Special Olympics Medical Application for Participation on file. Game locations and
transportation times will vary. A schedule will be distributed at the beginning of the season. No program August 20.
Save the dates! The ITRS Volleyball Tournament is Sunday, October 6. The Special Olympics Area Qualifier will be held in late September 2019 and for those
who qualify, the Special Olympics State Fall Games are on Saturday, October 26 - Sunday, October 27.
