Youth Programs Shape Up (New!) This program is all about having a fun, energetic total body workout while spending time with your friends! We will focus on key areas of our physical strength and endurance. The first half hour will emphasize easy-to-follow choreography to upbeat music to target cardiovascular strength. The last half hour will incorporate group activities including circuit training, walks on the track, cool down stretches and more. Please come dressed in athletic/workout clothing and gym shoes, and bring a water bottle. No program July 4. Goals: Promote a total body workout. Increase endurance and strength through dance-based exercise. Improve memory, coordination and sequencing. Develop ability to follow group direction. Get ready to rock to the beat of your own drum! This is the program we have all been waiting for! Music Speaks is led by a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC). It might sound like fun and games, but music and rhythm interventions also address physical, cognitive, communication, social and emotional aspects. Various instruments will be used during program. No musical skill or background is needed to be successful in a music therapy session. Goals: Develop an understanding and appreciation of music. Encourage positive self-expression. Increase exposure to a variety of musical rhythms and instruments. Equestrian Connection is a one-of-a-kind stable that provides therapeutic horseback riding opportunities specifically designed for individuals with special needs. Participants learn and practice grooming techniques, ride, have a snack and engage in a horse-related activity each week. A waiver will be sent prior to the program's start date; the waiver must be returned to the NSSRA office by Friday, June 8. No program July 5 and July 19. Note: As a safety precaution for all, participants over 250 pounds will do ground work with horses instead of riding. Participants with physical and medical conditions, please use caution. Goals: Increase flexibility and range of motion while on the horse. Gain self-confidence and a sense of control through stable skills. Develop companionship with the horse and a sense of responsibility.
