The Editor Speaks

Dear Members

I hope you enjoyed this year ’ s National Day celebrations as much as I did .
Somehow everything felt refreshingly different to me even though the scale and format of the celebrations had to be adjusted or scaled down to adhere to the restrictions necessitated by the Covid-19 pandemic . What impressed me particularly was the sight of six RSAF fighter jets flying in formation over eight hospitals across Singapore to honour our healthcare workers .
Here at the Club , our golf courses were packed as usual over the National Day weekend . The lines of golfers clad in the national colours of red and white created vibrant celebratory visuals . In some ways they helped to make up for the lack of traditional club activities to mark the event this year which , understandably , had been curtailed by the pandemic safety measures .
In this issue of RV , we too pay tribute to our very own special group of people : staff members who have received the Long Service Award ( 5 to 25 years ) for their dedicated service to the Club . Nasarudin Ismaon from Kranji , for instance , has been with us since 1994 when NSRCC was newly opened . Or Yam Chung Wai a veteran of 15 years from Changi . Read what they and their colleagues have to say about their NSRCC journey and the satisfaction they derive in serving the Club and its members in their various positions .
We also have two special write-ups on our Club ’ s continuing support of the Whole-of-Government efforts during this pandemic . Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Zaqy Mohamad visited our Changi bungalows which are now serving as a Government Quarantine Facility ( GQF ) and our Club President LG Melvyn Ong had a site tour of the temporary dormitories at NSRCC Kranji .
With the need to keep safe in the current environment , the Club is constantly looking at ways to protect members when they are using the facilities . One recent measure was the application of a self-disinfecting coating called SDST on common touch points such as those in Resort Bowl ,
Fitness Centre , Sky Range and all golf buggies .
Now that Vice-Captain Brian Tan has introduced us to the signature as well as most challenging holes at NSRCC , he turns his attention to two holes that he thinks are likely to be the favourite of many golfers . I will leave you to find out what these are and why he thinks they are immensely playable .
See you at the Club soon !
Regards ,
