The Editor Speaks
Dear Members
Safety first. That’s a message worth repeating anywhere. It is of concern lately on the NSRCC fairways
too, as elaborated by our Club Captain in Greenside Matters. He has once again stressed the need for
golfers to warn others of stray shots in a clear and timely manner in order to avoid accidents. Yes, keeping
the fairways safe for all golfers is paramount and we must all do our part.
Safety and courtesy also go hand in hand. In a “borrowed fairway” situation, some golfers have been
known to walk or drive their buggies onto adjacent fairways to find their balls without ensuring that the
coast is clear and they are not in the path of another flight. And as a gesture of thanks/apology when
others give way, a friendly wave is always appreciated. We will do well to remember that a ball that strays
has no right of way.
Repairing of divots is another important part of golf etiquette and here participants of the golf event to
mark SAF and NS Day took it to another level. In the spirit of “gotong royong”, everyone pitched in to do
exactly that on all 18-holes before the game started. It turned out to be another enjoyable day in the sun
followed by an evening of food and camaraderie on Jul 20 that was hosted by Club President LG Melvyn
Ong.
Is it pure talent or sheer hard work that is behind a successful person or golfer for that matter? This
age-old conundrum continues to challenge advocates on both sides of the table. Our guest writer from
Mizuno School contributes her views from the golfing perspective.
There should be no dispute however if one looks at service excellence and what drives it. Without a doubt,
passion is a key driver. Service providers with passion push boundaries and those they serve cannot help
but notice. And it helps win awards too. Just ask Norazizah Zainol, Andy Lee, Low Hai Meng and Poh Eng
Choon who are unassuming but fully deserving winners of the NSRCC Top Service Excellence Awards for
2018/19. Congratulations to all!
With lots of exciting things happening at the Club, do come down soon to join in the fun!
In the previous edition of RV Jul/Aug 2019, there was an error in a photo caption
on page 15. The correct caption is : Mr Wiley Lim (2nd from right) made a
successful bid of $8,000 for the washi eggs, handmade by seniors at AWWA.
