WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR SAFETY!
F
ellow members of NSRCC, I had addressed this topic in the past two editions of Resort View
pertaining to the well-being and safety of our members and guests on the golf course. However,
with the spike in cases of dangerous play over the past few months, I feel the need to remind all
again on proper conduct to avoid such situations.
In the last issue, we spoke about the danger of stray balls; I would like to reiterate the importance of
alerting other golfers by shouting “FORE” or “BALL” as well as the timing to do so. I have personally
witnessed golfers who only shouted “FORE “or “BALL” when their stray ball was within close proximity
to other golfers.
The whole intention of audibly shouting these words is to give other golfers sufficient time to react while
the ball is airborne, and not when the ball is about to land. Thus shouting “FORE” or “BALL” is important,
but the timing is also critical. A split second does make a difference considering the possible speed of
the ball. The rule of thumb would be to shout an alert once your ball has strayed, regardless of direction.
For golfers who hear “FORE” or “BALL”, do try to immediately shield yourself, especially your head. Try
to avoid looking around to find out where the ball may be coming from, for your own safety.
On another safety aspect, in recent months the weather in Singapore has soared within the range of 34 to
36 degrees celsius regularly. This coupled with the high humidity means that we are experiencing a higher
heat stress level. If we are not hydrated sufficiently, this could potentially lead to a heat-stroke which is a
serious matter. As such, all golfers are encouraged to drink sufficient water before, during and after the
game. Please do look after your fellow flight mates, and if any of them does not feel well, stop the game
and immediately seek medical assistance. If such a situation occurs, the golfing team will be able to
provide assistance through the Emergency Contact number labelled on all buggies.
On a different note, we recently concluded our SAF & NS Golf Day at NSRCC Changi which saw a good
turnout! We will soon be organising the final golfing event for 2019 which is Captain’s Cup on Saturday,
Sep 14 at NSRCC Changi. Publicity is already out, and to avoid getting yourselves disappointed, I urge
you to sign up quickly at the Golf Reception. Being the year’s final event, I would also like to thank our
members for their support at all our golf events and look forward to your continued support.
Here’s wishing you all, Happy and Safe Golfing!
