14 TEE TALK

I

would like to wish all members a belated Gong Xi Fa Cai , wishing you and your family blessings of happiness , good health and prosperity throughout this Chinese Zodiac year of the Ox . We are already well into Phase 3 and our members are quite accustomed to the COVID-19 safety measures that we have introduced in the Club . We expect this to continue until we receive further instructions from the authorities .

MATTERS

Dangerous Play 2020 saw a rise in the number of golfing incidents and reports especially at NSRCC Kranji . Most of these cases involved “ dangerous play ” and “ misconduct ” on the golf course . The Disciplinary Committee has suspended errant members from three to seven months for various infringements . When in doubt , always err on the side of caution . This includes waiting for players ahead of you to be out of range , whether they are on the fairways or walking off the greens , before taking your shot . The Club does not condone behaviour by members on the golf course that can pose danger to other members .
Managing Wayward Shots It is inevitable that golfers play the occasional wayward shot . How we react and respond is where we can make a big difference . Whenever a golfer hits a wayward short , a sincere apology would usually be met with equally sincere acceptance . This will generally resolve issues that may arise . To reiterate , for the benefit of new golfing members , the Golf Workshop ’ s guidance are as follows :
If you hit a wayward shot : 1 . You and / or your flight mates must immediately shout “ FORE ” as loudly as you can ( if there is any doubt whatsoever , just shout ). 2 . Go up to the affected party and check if anyone is injured , don ’ t make any excuses and apologise unreservedly whether or not your ball has hit anyone , i . e . show remorse . 3 . Upon finishing your round , apologise again . A round of drinks usually helps to soothe any raw nerves that may ensue . 4 . If all else fails , report immediately to the Club Marshal and note the time , place and circumstances like visibility , etc in case you are going to appear before the Disciplinary Committee to explain the incident .
To keep golfing safe , members are reminded that it is also the responsibility of golfers to report any other golfers who play dangerously . Golfers who have engaged in dangerous play deliberately should be reported to the Discipline Committee .
CLUB GOLF EVENTS Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic , we had to cancel all club golfing events in 2020 and also 2021 . The Club Management and Greens Committee are exploring how the club can organise golf events that will not pose safety issues and yet be able to provide community activities for members to bond . An example could be to bring back the “ kampong spirit ” activities such as having a “ gotong royong ” to also assist our maintenance crew in filling up divots , repair pitch marks , etc .
Wishing you all Happy and Safe Golfing !
