A DAY IN THE LIFE OF …

AN NSRCC SENIOR FOREMAN

By Nur Isyana , Assistant Executive ( Corporate Communications )
In this series of articles , we bring our readers closer to NSRCC staff by getting to know a little more about them . To kick this off , we spoke to Foo Keh Seong from the Course Maintenance team at NSRCC Changi .

This is Foo Keh Seong . He works as a Senior Foreman .

Foo is 40 years old and has been working at NSRCC since 1999 . “ My uncle , Foo Men Leong introduced me to this job . He was part of the Course Maintenance team since 1995 , but he retired in 2018 .”
Foo ’ s work day starts at 5.00am with a briefing from the Course Superintendent on the required duties and tasks for the day . Foo will then plan the duties and allocate the tasks to the course maintenance ground staff .
At around 8.00am , he will start making his rounds in the golf course to supervise the work of his team and assist them accordingly .
On the day when we met him , Foo was busy sand dressing the grass at Hole # 18 . It had rained heavily the day before , so in order to ensure that “ the grass is healthy has no algae and is therefore good for play ”, Foo and his team had to carry out sand dressing immediately .
On days when the weather is good , Foo ends work at 3.00pm . But if it rains heavily and especially on course maintenance days , he and his team will have to work late , till the job is done .
Despite the challenges of his job , Foo enjoys it very much – which is mainly the reason why he has been doing it for the past 21 years .
“ The working environment here is very good . I really like working at the golf course . But I cannot play golf !”, he says with a chuckle .
