INTERVIEW
We are in the DZ studio of Kenneth Carrera in Guay-
aquil, Ecuador, invited to attend a photo session.
R+: Kenneth, how are you? With whom do we have
the photo session?
Kenneth: Hi, how are you? Well, with Mare Cevallos,
she is an Ecuadorian actress and Miss. Mare have
been a friend of the studio for a long time. We take
pictures more than anything because she is a per-
son who lends herself to doing fun things, that's why
I always call her to do different things.
R+: Could you summarize your career in a few lines?
Kenneth: I started professional photography five
years ago when all this boom for photography and
fashion in Guayaquil arose, before that I was in Ad-
vertising for another five years and I studied Cinema.
Now i'm try to share my time between jobs for com-
panies and author photography.
R+: Can you tell us something about what are we
going to do today? What is the idea? The style?
Kenneth: I am a lot of improvising, I see something
that I like and I get the best out of it, then I mix
several things and put together to create something
new. For today, the first thing I decided was Mare,
she is quite multifaceted. Then, i evaluate several
elements such as the makeup that today came up
with the idea of a natural and wet look. As for the
wardrobe, I like to improvise and see what emerges
at the moment, even now that we are about to start
with the session, I do not know exactly how it will
look. It happens to me a lot that I plan and when the
day arrives the mood of that day is not or the model
can give more than what I expected and we have to
change things. It's enough of that, of improvising.
R+: I have seen that you have a certain preference
for some models, can you say that you have a muse?
Kenneth: I have never thought of a muse or some-
thing, for me it is choosing something I want to do
and I think of someone who adapts to that, who can

work for the idea, what face or attitude works. I have
worked with some people only once, if I repeat with
someone it is because there was a feeling like what
happens with Mare, we can talk, propose things and
explore. I always return to people who are fun.
R+: What kind of models are you looking for or what
features should you have?
Kenneth: For me it is a question of versatility, the
physical is 40% and the attitude 60%. For me it is to
go and show, to try things that work or not. If some-
one follows me without me carrying it all the time, I
think that person is powerful enough on camera.
R+: ¿How do you see the current Guayaquil? Do you
think that the opening of people has changed a bit
in front of the nude, both from the artist and from
the models?
Kenneth: I think that the progress of ideas has to do
with the school, what is happening in the city at the
academic level, many schools have arisen not only in
photography but also in art. When people are closer
to that, they are more open.
In addition, the new generations are much more
exposed and aware of that then it is easier to talk
with them, the dialogue is more open and you do not
have those taboos before allowing you to talk more
about certain topics. When this happens, the public
begins to assimilate, for me it is very important that
there is a circle that educates constantly.
Then you have social networks that are like a world
without limits and with the exposure they generate,
they allow art to reach everyone. They also help to
have a deeper connection with your audience, you
have direct contact, people can tell you what they do
not like, then you start trying to give new or different
things and get the answer immediately.
