National Society for Collegiate Scholars
January Newsletter | University of Hawai’i at Mānoa Chapter
Greetings, NSCSers!
My name is Jian Er Chen and I
am the current president of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars at the University of Hawaii at
Manoa chapter. I am a senior with
a concurrent degree of Psychology
and Marketing. You may ask, why
did I join NSCS? The name of the
National Society of
Collegiate Scholars
caught my attention at first. I was
not aware of its existence before
and it was the first organization that
knocked my door and recognized
my accomplishments during my
freshmen year. At that time, I considered it an opportunity to make
friends, but I didn’t anticipate any
significance that it could play in my
college life. A semester later, I was
encouraged to join the officer board
by the president of NSCS in 20112012 and was trained as a secretary
in the Spring with other prospected
officers. I am glad that I have this
opportunity to gain more leadership experience. In the past year,
however, there were management
issues in our chapter. Last semester,
I came to realize that it was time to
revitalize the strength of our chapter. I took over presidency during
winter break and 3 officers joined
the board. In order to have our vision come true, the execution of our
plans is essential. Before school
began, the officers and I had a
very long, but fruitful, meeting.
My objective as president is to
have members enjoy their NSCS
experience. Let me briefly introduce
you to the monthly newsletters. The
idea of the NSCS newsletter is to: 1)
share personal stories, ideas, opinions and thoughts with other members, 2) award scholarships and
points. Perhaps, most importantly,
it is going to be a collective effort
of officers and members. Last but
not the least, I am open to any comment and criticism, please feel free
to reach out to me at jianer@hawaii.
edu. I truly believe that your support motivates us to do even better
in the near future.

revitalize...”
